Shannon's on the Road!

Monday 23 October 2017

Shannon Morgan from Lisburn joined Cedar’s South-Eastern Inclusion Works programme in August 2015 when she was aged 18. One of the goals she agreed with her Cedar Case Officer, Nicola McEvoy, was learning to drive. After completing a medical assessment Shannon was given the go ahead and Nicola supported her in applying for her provisional license and finding a suitable driving instructor.

Shannon began driving lessons with Brian Morgan from ABBA Driving School. Brian and Nicola linked up monthly to discuss Shannon’s progress and areas where she needed to focus. In addition to her practical lessons Shannon began attending driver theory practice training with Cedar Training Officer, Rosemary Gillen.

In June this year Shannon succeeded in passing the driving theory test and just over a month later she passed the practical test first time and became an R driver!  Shannon now has her own car and has gained the independence she so strived for during her time on Inclusion Works.

Inclusion Works is person-centred service supporting individuals to design their own programmes around their needs and aspirations, building confidence and independence. to meet their employability and inclusion goals. It is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and all five local Health and Social Care Trusts.
