Jackie’s Coastal Adventures in County Down

Wednesday 08 February 2017

Jackie, a resident at Twisel Lodge, recently went on a holiday to Newcastle with Cedar staff. Jackie was very excited about the trip and helped plan for it during the preceding months. She booked into the Slieve Donard hotel and made the most of the weekend by upgrading to include her meals and drinks.

“The hotel was great. I had beautiful surroundings which I appreciated and the hotel staff were so helpful and gave me the time to make choices during my stay.”

During the day, Jackie took trips along the Mourne Costal route visiting Dundrum Castle and Warrenpoint. Shopping was a must and, aside from the souvenir mug Jackie purchased, she particularly enjoyed relishing in her love of music and choosing to buy CD's to listen to back in Twisel. Being lucky enough to have a view of the beach every day, the pathways and promenade proved to be great for Jackie. The wheelchair access allowed her the freedom to explore this beautiful area.

Jackie added “I spent the evenings going to bingo with the staff who kept me entertained from early morning to late night. I enjoyed the bingo and also the pubs that I ventured into where I enjoyed my Tia Maria and Coke. We ended our nights in the Slieve Donard enjoying the atmosphere talking about our day and admiring all the finery.”

With the adventure concluded Jackie explained:

“Over all I really had a great time away in Newcastle and found the break to be a relaxing one with lots of opportunity to sight-see, to integrate into the local community, access the local amenities and to enjoy my mini break. I look forward to my next adventure in 2017! I am so happy the staff from Twisel were able to go with me and support me to enjoy my holiday.”
